Gnatalie
Gnatalie (pronounced nat-ah-lee) is the more than 75-foot, Diplodocus-like sauropod in NHM Commons, free to view without a ticket. Her bones turned green when the mineral celadonite filled them during fossilization, making her the only green-colored fossil specimen on the planet.
Researchers from the museum's Dinosaur Institute, led by Dr. Luis Chiappe, discovered her quarry in southeastern Utah in 2007, in a riverbed buried 150 million years ago. Her nickname comes from the stinging gnats that pestered the dig crews, and Angelenos voted to make it official in June 2024.
